Hot Air Balloon Rides

Cancelled due to unsafe wind conditions.

All slots for the balloon ride have been filled. For those with reservations, please check this page and your email for updates throughout the week. If we are able to fly the balloon either day, we may need to start as late as 7:30 and go until 9:30. If that happens, we will take people in order based on their reservation time.

Latest information from Columbus Aeronauts:

Monday, June 13
“Unfortunately the forecasts for Thursday and Friday are showing winds that are expected to be out of range for being able to manage the balloon safely. On Thursday we are supposed to have the potential for pop up storms with excessive heat. On Friday the winds are supposed to be in 13 mph plus range.”

Friday, June 9
“For tethering balloons the ideal wind needs to be between 1 mph and 6 mph. Once you start going above 6 mph, the balloon becomes difficult to work with. Anything above 8 mph would be a no go. With making the decision to either cancel or the wait and see – if in the morning on the 16th or on the 17th it is clear that the winds are going be too high or there’s definitely going to be pop-up storms in the area, we will cancel the tether altogether that morning. If the forecast is on the fence with regards to either canceling or it being worth a location decision, we will plan to come out to observe the weather in real time to see if it’s possible to inflate the balloon and set up. Based on when sunset is. I would like to have two hours of tether time before sunset. So if the weather doesn’t appear to be in our favor, I would make the call by 7 PM. That way, if the weather is good for us to set up and inflate the balloon, we would have from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.”

Hot air balloons are a popular way to get a bird’s-eye view of Vienna, so we’re bringing this tradition to Rose Run Fest. See Rose Run Park and beyond during a tethered hot air balloon ride. Join us behind the Hinson Amphitheater from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 16 to float above the New Albany Symphony rehearsing for Saturday’s concert. The balloon can accommodate 2 -3 people at a time depending upon weight and weather factors.

There is no cost for the balloon ride, but if you can make a donation to support Rose Run Fest and New Albany Symphony, we would be grateful! (directions)

Learn the Viennese Waltz

Marx Library Garden (behind the New Albany Library)

Friday, June 17, 6:30 – 7:00 pm

The oldest of all the modern ballroom dances, the Viennese Waltz is a fast moving dance expressed most beautifully when a large group of dancers is on the floor at the same time. Danced in fast 6/8 time, its main characteristic is continuous rotation to left and right throughout the dance.

Come enjoy a short performance of the waltz followed by a 20 minute dance lesson. This event is free to the public but does require registration. Please wear comfortable clothing and a flat shoe like a sneaker as we will be dancing on brick and/or grass.

About your instructor: Jonathan Hill started dancing at the age of 10 when the BalletMet Columbus outreach scholarship program came to his school. This led Jonathan to love dancing and travel the world, landing him in Germany at a company called Dance Studio 1. Jonathan loves to share his knowledge of ballroom dance with dancers from beginner to advanced and has created several ballroom pieces for New Vision Dance Company to perform as part of their repertory.
